Cognitive
Peptides used in neuroscience, sleep and neuroendocrine research, including Semax, Selank and DSIP. For research use only.
About neuroactive research peptides
Here you will find peptides studied in a neuroscience context. Semax is a synthetic analogue of ACTH(4-7) developed in Russian research, Selank is an analogue of the endogenous tetrapeptide tuftsin, and DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a nonapeptide originally isolated in sleep research.
The compounds are relevant to preclinical work on neurotransmission, BDNF expression, stress response and sleep architecture. They are chemically small and well described, which makes them common reference substances in method development.
Purity and test date are documented for each batch through a certificate of analysis. The products are labelled Research Use Only and must not be used on humans or animals.
What the evidence actually consists of
Semax is an analogue of ACTH(4-7) and is discussed in the literature in connection with BDNF and NGF as well as dopaminergic and serotonergic systems. Selank is an analogue of tuftsin, stabilised with Pro-Gly-Pro, and is described in connection with GABA and serotonin systems. DSIP is a nonapeptide originally isolated from brain tissue, examined in connection with sleep patterns and neuroendocrine axes.
A substantial part of the research on Semax and Selank comes from Russian research groups and is published in Russian. The human studies are usually small, and several lack randomisation and placebo control. Much of the mechanistic knowledge is based on animal studies.
Access to the literature in this field is uneven, and the compounds have been little studied outside the original research groups. That does not invalidate the work, but it affects how firm any conclusions drawn from it can be.
