Description and specifications
Description
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide based on the immunoactive peptide tuftsin, stabilised with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. In research models, the molecule is investigated for anxiolytic properties, modulation of the GABA and serotonin systems, and immune regulation. Supplied as a lyophilised powder for laboratory use. For research use only (in vitro / laboratory use). Not for consumption, diagnostic or therapeutic use.
Research summary
Selank is a synthetic peptide modelled on the body's own substance tuftsin. It is best known from Russian research, where it has been investigated in relation to anxiety, stress and mental balance. Much of the research has been done in animals, and the human studies that exist are small and mainly Russian. Selank is sold for research purposes only and is not an approved medicine.
Level of evidence: Research on Selank is limited. Large parts have been carried out in animals or cells, and the few human studies that exist are small and come mainly from Russia. There are no large, independent clinical studies from the West. The results should therefore be interpreted with caution, and Selank is intended for research purposes only – not for treatment of humans or animals.
This information is written for a laboratory and research context. The product is not intended for consumption, diagnostics or therapeutic use.

Selank is a heptapeptide – a short chain of seven amino acids. Researchers believe it may affect the brain's GABA system, which is the body's most important "brake" signal and contributes to calm. In addition, studies have investigated whether Selank affects signalling substances such as serotonin and a growth protein called BDNF, which is linked to memory and nerve cells' ability to adapt. Exactly how it all fits together has still not been fully mapped.
What is being researched?
- Anxiety and restlessness (anxiolytic effect) – mostly investigated in small Russian studies
- Stress response and mental endurance
- The GABA system and the balance between signalling substances in the brain
- BDNF, memory and nerve cells' ability to adapt (neuroplasticity)
- Immune defence and inflammation-related genes (so far only in animal and cell studies)
