Peptide guide

Research guide to peptides

New to peptides? Here we explain each research peptide we stock: what it is, how it works and what studies have actually examined. In plain language, with links to the sources.

What are research peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the same building blocks proteins are made of, only much smaller. The body uses peptides as signals between cells. Research peptides are laboratory-made versions used to study these signals. All the products here are exclusively for research purposes.

How to read the guide

Each page explains the mechanism in plain language, summarises what the research has examined and links to the studies themselves. The evidence varies: some peptides have clinical studies in humans, while others have mainly been examined in cells and animals. Nothing here is medical advice or a claim of effect.

MOTS-c

mitochondrial peptide (12S rRNA ORF-c)

MOTS-c is a small peptide of 16 amino acids that the body makes itself – it is encoded in a section of the mitochondria's own DNA (the so-called 12S rRNA region). Mitochondria are the "power stations" inside cells, and researchers have become interested in MOTS-c because its levels appear to be linked to how the body handles energy and blood sugar. By far most of the research so far has been done in cells and animals, and only a few studies have been carried out in humans.
