Description and specifications
Description
GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) found in blood plasma. In research models, the complex is investigated for its role in collagen and elastin synthesis, wound healing and antioxidant processes in skin. Supplied as a lyophilised powder with a characteristic blue colour from the copper complex. For research use only (in vitro / laboratory use). Not for consumption, diagnostic or therapeutic use.
Research summary
GHK-Cu is a small, naturally occurring molecule made up of three amino acids (glycine, histidine and lysine) bound to a copper ion. It is found naturally in human blood, and levels appear to fall with age. Researchers have been interested in GHK-Cu for over 50 years, particularly in relation to the skin's connective tissue, wound healing and the role of copper inside cells. The content here is a research-based introduction for beginners, not health advice.
Level of evidence: The evidence base is mixed. There is a long series of cell and animal studies, as well as cosmetic and dermatological studies on skin, but few and small controlled studies in humans – and some of them showed no clear effect. GHK-Cu is not an approved medicine, and the material is sold for research use only (Research-Use-Only).
This information is written for a laboratory and research context. The product is not intended for consumption, diagnostics or therapeutic use.

In laboratory and animal studies, GHK-Cu appears to act as a signalling molecule: it binds and carries copper into cells and influences which genes are active. Studies have described that it can trigger a "remodelling" of connective tissue – including production of collagen and elastin – while also affecting enzymes (MMPs and their inhibitors) that both break down and build up the skin's supporting tissue. Much of this has been shown in cells and animals; how much carries over to humans with ordinary use is still uncertain.
What is being researched?
- Collagen and elastin production in the skin's connective tissue (cell and animal studies)
- Wound healing and tissue renewal in animal models
- Signs of skin ageing such as wrinkles and firmness (cosmetic/dermatological research)
- Antioxidant defence and gene expression in cells
- Anti-inflammatory effects in experimental models
