Description and specifications
Description
BPC-157 is a synthetic, stable pentadecapeptide of 15 amino acids (sequence GEPPPGKPADDAGLV) derived from a protective protein in gastric juice. In research models, the peptide is investigated for its role in angiogenesis, tendon and muscle repair, and protection of mucous membranes. Supplied as a high-purity lyophilised powder for laboratory use. For research use only (in vitro / laboratory use). Not for consumption, diagnostic or therapeutic use.
Research summary
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic peptide made up of 15 amino acids. The sequence is derived from a protein found naturally in gastric juice. In the laboratory, researchers have investigated how the substance affects tissues such as tendons, muscles, gut and blood vessels, mainly in animal models. By far most of the knowledge comes from experiments in rodents and in cell cultures – studies in humans are so far very few.
Level of evidence: Almost all research on BPC-157 is preclinical – that is, carried out in rodents or in cell cultures in the laboratory. There are very few data from humans: only a few clinical studies have been registered, and results from large, controlled trials are so far lacking. Findings from animals cannot be transferred directly to humans. BPC-157 is not an approved medicine, and the content here is intended for research purposes only and as a summary of the published literature – not as health advice.
This information is written for a laboratory and research context. The product is not intended for consumption, diagnostics or therapeutic use.

In animal studies, BPC-157 appears to affect the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), including by increasing expression of the growth factor VEGF. The peptide has also been linked to signalling pathways that control cell division, cell migration and cell adhesion (for example FAK/paxillin), and to the nitric oxide system, which is important for blood vessel function. In rodent experiments this is associated with faster organisation of connective tissue and better blood flow in damaged tissue. How – or whether – this happens in humans has not been established.
What is being researched?
- Repair of tendons and ligaments in rodent models (including the Achilles tendon)
- Muscle healing after crush injury in rats
- Protection and healing of the gastric lining and gut in animal experiments (stomach ulcers, intestinal anastomoses, fistulas)
- Formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) during tissue healing
- Nerve tissue and spinal cord injury in rat models
